Class of ’83 Chairman Speech at APT 2024

Address By Pst Igho Efekemo,
Chairman of the 1983 Class

The President General Worldwide, Ancient Mariners, fellow Mariners, my classmates, students, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen.

It is with great joy and nostalgia that I stand here today surrounded by familiar faces and memories that have shaped our lives.

I remember like yesterday when I stepped into this great school in the month of September 1983. Despite being an Ughelii boy who was born and bred here, I never had the privilege of stepping into this school until I became a student. Young boys of the average age of 10 -12 years gather at what we later known as the assembly ground to be addressed on our registration modalities

There were so many first-time experiences, from the vast nature of the school, the beautiful apian way, the Indian teachers we had, most especially the warm and receptive Mr. Gopinathan who was vice principal in charge of admissions.

I remember the very revered Cadet field that it was an offence to look into the direction of the field especially when there was a parade.

As we gather to celebrate our shared experiences and achievements, let us take a moment to reflect on the moments that defined our time at this esteemed institution. From late-night study sessions to laughter-filled moments in the quad, from challenging exams to triumphant graduations, our alma mater has been a catalyst for growth, discovery, and lifelong connections.

The Class of 1983 has grown to become a great class where we have distinguished young men and professionals from all fields of endeavours. Despite not seeing each other for years, but just through the means of social media have been able to interact as if we have been together since we left school.

In preparation for this Re union, based on the advice of National Executive Committee according to priority of projects, we were assigned to renovate the staff toilets. An assignment we took and ran with all dexterity and zeal. Even when the principal’s office upgrade was added to it, we accepted and ensure it was completed as well. So today we present to you a staff toilet renovated and upgraded to modern status and the principal secretary’s office.

I must commend the willing and voluntary contributions of my classmate toward this project. The contribution was done in such a way that there was no discrimination and dichotomy. Everybody gave in love.

I also want to at this point appreciate our reunion planning committee chairman; Dr Thompson Odeku and his indefatigable team for coordinating the reunion affairs.

We trust that this project is received as it enhances the faculty well-being while in school enabling effective delivery of teaching services. To the graduating class, you are privileged to be part of this great school history; go forth and shine, fulfil destiny and be whom God has ordained you to be.

Finally, I want to thank the President general Olorogun Albert Akpomudje SAN; Secretary General, Mr Wilson Egbodje and all memebers of NEC; for giving the class of 1983 the honour of hosting this great occasion.

To my classmates, once again I thank you all for your continued support toward the class and our great college. We couldn’t have been here without your support.

To everyone here, thank you for your kind attention and wish you all the best in all your endeavours.

Dear fellow alumni, esteemed faculty, and honoured guests. As we reconnect and reminisce, let us also look to the future, inspired by the knowledge and values that our alma mater has instilled in us. May our shared spirit and camaraderie continue to guide us as we navigate life’s journey.

Thank you to our alma mater for the memories, the lessons, and the community that has become our extended family. Cheers to our reunion and to the many more milestones to come!
