New Year Message From The Desk Of The President General World Wide As We Enter This Faithful Year 2025
It gives me great pleasure to welcome all members of Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association to this brand new year 2025.
We thank God Almighty for sparing our lives to see this new year.
We are not unmindful of the fact that we lost some of our very valuable and prominent old boys. Our prayers go to members of their respective families, and may their gentle and noble souls rest in perfect peace.
STATE OF OUR ASSOCIATION.
I am proud to state with all confidence that our Association is waxing stronger by the day. The commitment of our members is growing stronger, and the unity of purpose for the common good of the school is not in doubt. I believe firmly, that there are no factions in the association to the best of my knowledge .The only issue that is obvious to many of us is being addressed. I wish to assure all members that the said issue will be resolved within the shortest possible time, and we will put it behind us by the grace of God. The other issue is that of internal crisis within the 1997 class, but it has not affected the national body in any way. I wish to assure our members that NEC is on top of the matter and we also believe it would be resolved soonest.
OUR MAIN PROJECTS FOR THE ASSOCIATION IN THE PAST 2 YEARS
As you all know, our priority for the past 2 years has been the concession of the school by the Government to the Old Boys Association. Our immediate past PGWW ARC Chief Dr Charles MAJOROH and Sir Ikide Arumemi have put in so much to turn out a feasibility study on the concession bid undertaken by a firm of Consultants, which we have presented to the Delta State Government. A powerful delegation of very prominent ancient mariners were on hand to assist the Association with the presentation of the report. We are now waiting for the Government’s response on the said report.
80th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION.
By the 17th day of January 2025, our great school will be 80 years. The Committee put in place to plan for the celebration of this event has been working round the clock to give us a successful outing .
To mark this event, NEC decided that we should have a legacy project to build a one thousand seating capacity auditorium, estimated to cost about three billion Naira.
We have noticed the slow response by Class sets and branches in the payment of the levies assigned to the respective groups. We wish to plead very passionately for those yet to pay to please do so.
The Association is also relying on individual donors(mostly our old boys, friends and associates of the school) to make up the funds with which to execute the project. We have noticed the slow response by individual donors towards the celebration and execution of the project. We are however optimistic that before the event in January, the will be improvement in the payment of the levies and donations.
I sincerely thank all those that have responded to the payment and I urge on every one of us to be part of this project by contributing towards the execution, nothing is too small in this regard.
APPEAL TO OUR MEMBERS TO BE PHYSICALLY PRESENT IN JANUARY FOR THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION.
Even though we are soliciting for money to execute the said project, what is most important to us is your physical presence during the event. I look forward to receiving all of you at the school from Wednesday, January 15th to Friday, January 17th 2025 .
Finally, I wish all of us a happy and prosperous new year 2025. May God Almighty richly bless each and every one of us in this new year . May God grant all of us good health and prosper us in our different endeavours in Jesus name. Amen
Olorogun Albert Akpomudje SAN, PGWW and the Otota of Olomu kingdom.
