Introduction
It is with great honour and excitement to present the proposed plan for the celebration of the 80th Anniversary of Government College Ughelli. This milestone event presents us with a unique opportunity to honor our rich history, celebrate our esteemed institution, and reconnect with our cherished alumni. Through meticulous planning and collaborative efforts, we aim to orchestrate a celebration that resonates with reflection, gratitude, and reconnection.
Key Initiatives
1. Awards Ceremony: The centerpiece of our celebration will be the Awards Ceremony scheduled for Friday, January 17, 2025. We are proud to present the “80th Anniversary Awards,” recognizing excellence and contributions across various categories. With various awards to commemorate our 80 years of existence, we will honor both living alumni and posthumous recipients. Additionally, we propose fundraising initiatives for the erection of a Mariners House or Assembly Hall, or the renovation/remodeling of our school’s hostels to enhance student living conditions.
2. Event Programme: Spanning three days from Wednesday, January 15, 2025, to Friday, January 17, 2025, our event program will offer a diverse range of activities. These include NEC meetings, lectures, bonfire gatherings, press conferences, and an opportunity for Old Boys to join students in their inter-house sports competition on Saturday, fostering camaraderie and engagement.
3. Venue Arrangements: Due to space constraints, we propose the erection of a Marquee tent to comfortably accommodate attendees. Special tables will be reserved for awardees and their guests, ensuring their recognition and honor throughout the celebrations.
4. Guest Invitations: High-profile guests, including notable figures and key individuals instrumental in the history of our institution. Personal visits and contacts will be initiated to ensure their participation, along with special appeals to Ancient Mariners and class groups.
5. Collaborative Efforts: We recommend prioritizing the 80th Anniversary celebrations by collapsing other events scheduled for 2024, such as the National Dinner in October. Additionally, we propose aligning the induction of Class members of 1970 into the Ancient Mariners fold with the anniversary, encouraging a larger turnout and engagement.
6. Project Consideration: We propose readying the 1974 Class jubilee project for commissioning as a significant endeavor to commemorate our 80th Anniversary, highlighting our commitment to honoring our heritage and achievements.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the 80th Anniversary of Government College Ughelli represents a momentous occasion to celebrate our heritage, achievements, and collective spirit. Through collaborative efforts and thoughtful planning, we aim to create an unforgettable experience that honors our past, engages our present, and inspires our future. With your support and guidance, we are confident in delivering a celebration worthy of our esteemed institution.
Thank you.
